Once a person has made a decision to go into rehab there is process that is known as detox that a lot of people find very hard to go endure. This process is mainly so hard on a patient because of the withdrawal symptoms.
Detox takes a person from the streets or their home that is addicted to drugs and places them in a room by themselves to be winged off of drugs, this happens much like stopping “cold turkey” off of cigarettes. Detox and withdrawal symptoms is the hardest part of rehab itself, but once you body has gotten rid of all the drugs you already start to feel better. There are some withdrawal symptoms that have to be watched very closely.
Tranquilizers and alcohol have some harsh side effects when they are stopped abruptly. Seizures, heart attacks and strokes can all happen which is why a patient must me medically supervised through-out the detoxing process.
The detox process of rehab is not a comfortable thing to go through but it is necessary so that the rest of rehab therapy can take place. Once the withdrawal process is over you are free to roam around with other patients, build friendships, and talk in groups of people facing your same battle. This process along can give you the high you want without the drugs.
