substance abuse
Substance abuse is a grave situation in our society, nearly everyone knows someone who either has or has had a problem with substance abuse.
Substance abuse is anyone who is using any type of drug including marijuana, heroin, cocaine, prescription drugs, inhalants, club drugs and steroids. Each drug listed above can make a person either dependent or addicted to them. Once a person becomes addicted there is little hope outside of rehab that can get a person off the drug of choice for them.
Substance abusers find themselves prone to doing whatever possible to get their next high. They smoke, inject, pop pills and snort so much that they have no idea how much they have taken in which puts them at risk for an overdose.
More than 4 million women alone are addicted to drugs and need treatment for it. A survey taken in 1999 showed that 19.5 million people over the age of 12 were addicted to drugs and the number 12 years later is astonishing larger. From substance use, 2 people every hour pass way.
Substance abuse does not just hurt the people abusing it, it can hurt anybody that person comes in contact with such as family, children, job partners, friends and innocent people who are simply bystanders. Substance abusers loose concept of time and before they know it their five your old is fifteen and either abusing the same drug or has been taken into custody by the state or other family members.
Substance abuse ruins families, isolates a person and can cause something so severe a person can never get back, their life. If you or someone you know has a problem with substance abuse talk to someone. You are not alone in the battle to fight an addiction or the desire for drugs. Millions of people are battling the same force; you do not have to fight it alone.
