psychotherapy
Once a person has made a decision to go into rehab they have made one of the most important decisions to change their life, however it is not the only changing factor in a person’s life and much more is still to come.
Psychotherapy is the process that gets a person from start to finish throughout their time at rehab. Psychotherapists are there to talk to, to resolve and to heal and that is exactly what they do through their 3-step process.
First of all, a person who has gone into rehab has most likely just come from taking a hit or they are fully drugged up which means there is a process of time where a person will be going through detox. Detox is the worst experience in rehab because you are stopping drugs or alcohol “cold turkey”, which means your last hit or drink was truly your last. This experience can be hard on anyone who has been taking in drugs for a while; it can also be very painful. But in the end, it is well worth it. Your psychotherapist will help you through this experience.
Once you have completed detox you will begin talking with your psychotherapist who will work with you to find out what caused the drug use/ alcohol use which is a huge key in healing. You will also be introduced to a group of drug addicts or alcoholics so you can see you are not alone in your fight to come clean and stay clean. Group sessions are a very important part of recovery. Your psychotherapist will than discuss the 12-step program to freedom you will be journeying on in rehab.
Once your healing has begun and your psychotherapist feels you are free to move on in life, you will be released from rehab but not before your psychotherapist talks to you about your future. Therapists know that it’s easier to fight drugs/alcohol in rehab but not so much when those temptations arise outside of rehab. Your therapist will tell you how to avoid these temptations and how to make a better future for yourself. Even when you leave rehab, you have made a friend for life in your therapist who will always be there to call in time of need.
