alcohol treatment
Every since the Colonial age alcohol has been a debated issue, some people choose to not have it in their lives, others drink here and there, other people every Friday or Saturday night and for some people it’s an obsessive addiction ruling over their marriage, their job and their life.
During Colonial times alcohol use was said to be a basic “gift sent from God”, however with due to the knowledge of risks thanks to modern technology it is anything but a gift. However, during Colonial times even children were encouraged to drink and in today’s world children are being told how important it is not to drink.
Alcohol can cause many different illnesses and some severe complications with pregnancy and birth. Even though alcohol can and does cause many illnesses, auto accidents and deaths, the number of alcoholics goes up every single year and that’s not likely to change.
Alcohol treatment comes in the form of rehab and although it can take a lot for a person to see that they have a problem to begin with, alcohol rehab is available to everyone and it does heal.
Alcohol treatment starts first with detoxification; this process is the most difficult because it takes a person through the “cold turkey” side of quitting. This means the last alcoholic drink a person has before entering rehab is their very last alcoholic drink through the recovery of rehab. Based off of this, many people have severe withdrawal symptoms. These symptoms include things like nausea, vomiting, headaches, stomach pain, muscle pain and sometimes something as extreme as a heart attack. However, the detoxification process is watched over very carefully to make sure the person going through is safe.
Once detoxification is completed, then a person will go into group therapy where they will talk to other alcoholics. This is a process that repeats itself over and over again until a counselor from the rehab center believes that a person has become healthy enough to leave.
