addiction abuse

addiction abuseaddiction abuse is seen all across America and it holds a lot of conversations in family members who have a loved one addicted to drugs or alcohol. When a person has become addicted to drugs or alcohol they may at first not even realize that they have. In fact, they see it as though they are merely having fun and taking a hit or drinking a beer once in awhile. It is possible that they never remember the hits that come after that first one or the beer bottles that litter the table.

In 2007, 14.4 million American’s were using marijuana as a way to get high and more than two million of those users had tried it for the very first time within that year. In today’s world 8% of American’s 12 and older are addicted to some form of illegal drug and a large percentage of that 8 percent are teens and young adults.

More and more American’s are finding themselves addicted to prescription drugs and in fact, that itself has become the number two cause of accidental deaths due to overdose.

The only saving grace throughout all these statistics and facts is that there is hope. It doesn’t matter how long a  person has been addicted to drugs, to alcohol or even smoking there is always a way to find help and retrieve it. Addiction abuse is a devastatingly serious issue in America. Daily it is treated like a chronic disease such as cancer because of its ability to disrupt lives and eventually take a person’s life. Doctor’s have found that addiction shares the same traits as diseases such as running in families through genes and the ability to be treated through medications.

Through a recovery path addiction can be stopped and fewer families will fall apart and more children will live normal healthy lives, not one so full of pain and hardship. All it takes is the first step.
