addicted
Being addicted to any drug can be hard for a person to handle, it not only affects the way a person feels it also affects the way they think as well. Most people believe that when someone is addicted to something it means that they are using drugs or getting drunk a lot. However, there are other ways of being addicted that many people do not think about.
Gambling, eating, shopping and sex are four other addictions that a lot of people in the United States carry around with them and for some people they carry multiple addictions. There are several hundred people who are addicted that would tell you that they are fine and they do truly believe that after 10 beers daily every day that they are not addicted to alcohol even though they clearly are.
Being addicted can sometimes lead people to denial and that is why they believe that they are fine and do not need any help. As a friend or loved one to an addicted person it may be hard to get a person to break down enough to go and get help but help is what they need.
When people are addicted they tend to act differently and their lives start to take a turn for the worse. You may find that drugs, alcohol, shopping, sex or gambling away their money is the only thing they want to do. Generally parents with an addiction do not give their children the attention that they need which means they don’t care if they are in school or if they are running around with a bad crowd after school. For most addicted parents they do not even know where their children are. Addictions take over the body and mind leaving a person completely reliant on it.
If you know someone who is addicted to drugs, alcohol or any of the other addictions listed above call someone today. Get them the help that they need, they may not want it now but in the future they will be grateful toward you.
