12 step program

12 step programWhen first entering rehab, a person endures one of the hardest processes they have gone through, detox. Detox can make a person feel very sick, depressed and even very alone. It is a process that can be considered cruel but it is also a process that is necessary.

Once a person has gone through detox they are already on their way to recovery, but it is a long road ahead. First of all, a person will meet with their counselor who will become their lifeline through rehab. A counselor not only heals but uncovers the path that led up to addiction itself. They also help to uncover the road to success when a person is set free into the world once more. People find themselves very alone in rehab until they become a part of group counseling, which shows them that they are anything but alone. Hundreds of people are in the same rehab going through the very same process.

Once group meetings and discovery has taken place from a counselor to a patient then comes the time to start a 12-step program. Twelve step programs were once used for Alcoholics Anonymous classes. These steps help to teach a person goals in which they should achieve through steps. When a person gets too much information at a time, it can be overwhelming. So to give a person one step at a time to work toward becomes the key idea for recovery.

Each treatment center uses their own version of 12-step program to help with their patients but each program had the same basic essentials, to help the patient cope and recover.

Twelve step programs are processes that help to set goals and they can be used through all walks of life, not just for addiction. They can be used through-out the rest of a person’s life even when rehab is no longer a daily affair.
